How to Use Mala Beads for Meditation

1.  Sit in a comfortable seated position, preferablt crossed legged, if not use pillows underneath you to help you feel comfortable, with your spine straight and your eyes closed, rest your backs of you hands on your knees with one hand holding your mula beads.  Take a few deep breaths to center and align yourself with your intention.

2. Choose a mantra for  this practice, chanting aloud or silently. It could be something as simple as “I am loved” ‘I am letting go’ “I am open to golden opportunities’ or “ I am radiant’

3.  Hold your mala in your right hand, draped between your middle and index fingers. Starting at the guru bead, use your thumb to count each smaller bead, pulling it toward you as you recite your mantra. Do this 108 times, traveling around the mala, until you once again reach the guru bead.

4.  If you want to continue the meditation, instead of passing over the guru bead, simply reverse direction and begin again. Or continue in mediation and notice the stillness and peace you have created. When you are in deep meditation, you will know as this is a place you don’t feel like you want to leave or rush off to the next thing. Allow yourself 10-30 mins. 

5.  Where your Mula beads around your wrist after meditation to remind you of your mantra and inner peace and happiness created in your practice.

How to order a chai when travelling.

Day 1 How to order a Chai Tea and what to look out for?! 

 

It's my number one problem, finding authentic Spice Chai, it's been solved By travelling with my own chai spices, but every time I travel I still fantasise about one day being able to order a authentic chai tea brewed with home made almond milk creamy and 😋 tasty but for know for a few more years as we globally evolve health and vitality Chai is still hard to source at airports and even most cafes, use that terrible *powder or syrup. 

Always know what you are drinking!

Nicky's Chai Tips when travelling 

 

1. Carry Chai Tea Spice blend ( buy mine online  for your next trip) in a travel cup, preferably one with strainer.

2. Remember when checking in international no liquids allowed through customs. I had to tip my tea out but because my blend is very strong, the next couple or brews are usually perfect.

3. Load a couple of tablespoons so you can forget about having to measure out more and make mess. All you have to do is add more hot water. The air hosts are more than willing to do this for you. Sip away at your turmeric chai while flying on long flights will help with circulation, energy, focus and wellbeing. 

4. When you land and I between flights or hungry ask a safe to make a almond milk latte ( of soy if you can't get almond) honey and cinnamon. Then add 1/4 of a cup of 1/3 of your already brewed chai. 

5. Looking for a treat to go with you almond chia, look out for RAW BARS I fully endorse this product as. It's what I would make, made from almomnds, dates, cacao and coconut oil. Or if in NZ look for 'wishbone' takeaway healthy bites and food. They have quinoa salads and other options. Just be very careful at addd sauces, condiments. 

6. It's not about calorie counting, I have never counted calories, nature was provided for us to eat wholesome, not restrict.

How to Meditate.

How can meditation help you live in the present moment?

Meditation is one of those practices people don't value enough or want to fit it into their busy
day. My own experience is when we are balanced we don't feel we need to meditate so we can
stray from the practice, and then all of a sudden... BOOM you feel stressed again or maybe 
not balanced, not feeling content with life or you may have pressure or a demanding job, 
environment, partner, family, children wanting all your attention and then you STOP and want
to BREATHE or as most people feel, want to run or escape from the stress. Meditation can help you at the times of your life you feel you haven't got anything else to help
you. Have you ever sat with yourself, turned off your phone, notice how distracted you are in 
your mind or even your body. I was the worst for this as a child, my Mum and Dad often told 
me to sit still have you got ants in your pants, you can sit still for 5 mins. Now days I can get 
myself in a deep state of meditation and don't want to leave it. It is the best feeling in the world and after you come out of your practice you seem to get more done, quicker and more efficient with clarity and clear sense of direction. If you are in the middle of making a big decision Meditation is 
really the best tool to practice before making that decision. Learning to pause, before reacting.
In todays busy world, meditation can help you feel more present and not living in the past or 
future. It can help increase your inner peace and happiness. I know in ten years time more 
people will be valuing and respecting this ancient practice more and more as our world speeds
ups an change quicker than ever. Just think about how far we have come with technology in the past 10 years. When I go married in my late 20's My husband and I opened an email account,
HOTMAIL. Then 6 years later we opened Facebook accounts... not sure that was a great idea 
for relationships, it sure did come with distractions, and that is when I began my journey of MEDITATION. I have to say both of us gave meditation together. It really helps you increase 
your health and vitality, clear your mind and help with overwhelm when juggling a hundred 
things at once.

Living in the present moment can help manage stress, and help you feel more balanced. But 
how do we do it around such a busy and demanding world?

Practising meditation allows you to become centered in the present moment. It encourages you 
to have mind and body awareness. It teaches clarity of mind, stillness, and relaxation. It makes
you feel the serenity in your core, with a sense of being more grounded and centred. You have 
focus and your concentration is a lot clearer. Overall, you do become more productive. It will 
also raise your threshold for dealing with challenging, stressful situations.

Meditation is not hard. You don’t need knowledge, it just takes practice. It’s a case of sitting or
lying down, staying completely still and relaxed. The aim is to control your breathing, allowing it to become deeper, without falling asleep. You still have full consciousness, clarity of mind and 
you’re finding your stillness in mind and body. I like to call it finding grace. Letting go of any thoughts, acknowledging them, then returning to your breath.

How to meditate 

1. Get tasks done beforehand or try writing them down, so they are not on your mind.
2. Turn phone off/take clock away from room, remove your watch.
3. Soft lighting like candlelight. Burn calming oil in your oil burner to help you fully relax.
4. Take off your shoes.
5. Come to a comfortable seated position or lie down. Use music or a guided meditation CD to help you train your mind and body to relax. 
6. Close your eyes.
7. If you are cross legged and seated, try to have your hips higher than knees. Put a pillow or cushion under your buttocks to lift your hips, or try having your back against a wall until  you become more familiar and comfortable with the pose.

1. Realise meditating can have an effect on your emotions, be aware you may feel emotional 
   or tearful after—it is okay, it’s a good thing, emotions are being released out of your body.
   For many people this can be the first time they sit with themselves and hear their inner 
   voice. Your mind will be busy and thoughts will drop into your mind and often flit from 
   thought to thought. Your job is to try LET THEM GO and keep coming back to your breath 
   and stillness. It doesn't mean you can no acknowledge the thoughts, but try your best to not
   get caught up into a conversation or story about the thought. Try to master the stillness of
   the mind, the brain and use a mantra such as ‘I am ‘ to help you come in to the present 
   moment.
2. ‘I am... content!’ ‘I am worthy!” “I am grateful” “ I am enough” “I am relaxed”

Raw Pad Thai - Nourish You Body this Winter.

Pad Thai

Here is my version or a Raw pad Thai. The zucchini replaces the noodles and the coconut lime dressing giving it a lovely zest and Thai taste. Bell peppers are high in Vitamin C; they contain fibre, protein and iron. I love the colours created in this dish, colour your life by adding a variety of colours to your nutrition. 

Serves 4

2 zucchini (courgettes), spiralised
1 carrot, spiralised
2 cups (1 lb/450 g) beansprouts
1 yellow capsicum (bell pepper), sliced 4 spring onions (scallions), diced
3⁄4 cup (3 oz/85 g) cashews, chopped
1⁄2 cup fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped
Juice of 1 lime
1 tablespoon olive oil
1⁄4 teaspoon Himalayan pink salt or Celtic sea salt 1/3 cup mint leaves, to garnish
For the Coconut and Lime Dressing
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 tablespoon fresh turmeric, grated (shredded)
1⁄2 tablespoon fresh root ginger, grated (shredded)
Juice of 4 limes
1 teaspoon manuka honey  2 tablespoons coconut kefir or coconut milk

Method

To make the dressing, blend all the ingredients until smooth in the bowl of a food processor or blender.
To make the pad Thai, tip all the ingredients into a large bowl, season to taste, then add the beansprouts, peppers, spring onion and cashew nuts.
Stir the dressing through the vegetables. Garnish with fresh mint leaves

DIY Skin Ritual

 I just wanted to share with you another home remedy tip I use frequently on my own skin regime.

 I just love sharing all my secrets with you, and  I have been reaping the rewards for many years that has made a huge difference to my own skin, body and health.

 Today I want to share my skin ritual and what to pack your pantry with.

My former background was owning hair and beauty salons, something I still love and have an interest for today. Through hairdressing training came the study of the skin, the largest organ in your body. 

There is an old saying 'If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin!' URGHHHHH!!! As women, we all love skin products but as we age we also get to know our skin more and more. I know with my own skin it needs lots of hydration, and good quality sleep. If I drink alcohol, my skin looks dehydrated and I can see my lines a lot more than if I have an early night, drink my greens juice, chia teas and plenty of water.

If you want to feel better, look healthier and glow from the inside out, it is important to add nourishing foods to you daily regime, it  will naturally help the skin eliminate and detox. 

High in Vitamin C, the lemon is nature's natural blood purifier, ridding the body of toxins and free radicals while flushing out bacteria. Lemon is my RITUAL morning and night. 

My favourite daily skin-loving RITUALS - besides what we eat and drink there are other regular rituals that can be added to a daily ow weekly routine to foster healthy and radiant skin.
