Nic's Healthy Banana Cake recipe









Healthy Banana Bread Recipe 



Ingredients 

1 tablespoon coconut oil 
1 egg 
2 egg whites
3 ripe mashed bananas 

1/2 cup dates - soften with boiling water in a 1/2 cup water or use honey 

2 cups of Gluten free flours- I use LSA, or a cup of almonds made into almond flour. (try blending the dry nuts into a flour use 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds 1 cup raw almonds, or and sun flower seeds or Oats 

1 tspn baking powder 
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

1/2 cup mixed seeds -this could be chia, pumpkin, sunflower, or linseeds 


1/4 cup of almond milk or pure orange juice - made from your blender or juicer - or squeeze and orange 

Method 


  • Blend the flours dry set aside 

  • blend eggs, coconut oil, mashed bananas, spices, milks,  dates, or honey, squeezed orange juice together on high speed.

  • Pour into a large bowl, add seeds then slowly mix in the flours 

Mix until a batter like texture, add more almond milk if you have to. The consistency should be similar to a cake mixture.
Pour into your banana loaf or cake tin. Remember to grease it with coconut oil first or use baking paper 

Bake for around 25 mins -40 mins on 150 degree watch it, test with the fork to see if the inside is baked through .

Sit out to cool.

Serve with greek or coconut yoghurt and berries YUM!

The ageing body, the yoga body





Yoga may be the fountain of youth, I was blessed to begin my own path in my 20’s but it’s definitely not just for youth. 
Some yogis come to yoga when they’re young, fit, and healthy just like me. I was competing in body building competitions and needed it for mind body soul. 
But as our bodies change with injury and the ageing of time, yoga can serve us even more and help us maintain health and vitality into our golden years. I know within my own practice I need it more and more as I age. 
Our practice should change +  evolve with our body’s needs + lifestyle. 


If you started practicing in your 20s, you were probably drawn to faster-paced flow-style yoga, I certainly was!  Vinyasa or flow yoga is the most common yoga Ashtanga based. This type of yoga moves quickly, and it’s as much of a cardio workout as it is a yoga practice. It’s a fun practice that offers sweat, like Bikram in the hot room. 
As we move into our late 20s and 30s, it becomes crucial to build strength in the glutes and core. 
In your 30s, years of sitting at a desk for work or school may start to take a toll. Or long lengths of standing like I was when I ran my hair salons. 


In our 30s and 40s, major life changes occur. I can certainly say that.
Some of us will balance families, work elderly parents, hormonal imbalances, and increasing job pressure. 
It’s important that we focus on relaxation during these often-stressful years. Adding in yin based or restoration yoga poses can create balance. 
Your 40s are a perfect time to start a more focused meditation practice. Research shows that in addition to lowering stress levels, a regular meditation practice can offer anti-ageing properties.


Women in their mid 40s will begin to have hormone shifts: gentle yoga and meditation can be
the antidote to changing moods and energy levels.

Our 50s are all about balance, and a focus on balance poses is especially helpful. 


Poses that strengthen the abductors and outer hips are crucial. Side plank is one helpful pose for this kind of hip strength. It can be modified with the bottom knee down on the earth for more support and it can be made more challenging if the top leg is raised up. Traditional standing balance poses, like tree pose and warrior III should be regularly practiced, too, since the only way to get better at balance is to practice. 




Psychologically,  facing the ageing years of 50 can feel like a major life milestone. Breath work such as pranayama and Nidra Breathing exercise can help with anxiety at this point of mid life, 


As we move into our 60s and beyond, health concerns take precedence when deciding what yoga practice to do.


I know yoga is part of my life forever and can already see the different styles I have been drawn to throughout my 20's, 30's and 40's

Soothe your tummy with my Turmeric Tea

While my home country New Zealand is in it's darkest days, I make myself a turmeric tea, light a candle and sit in a meditation to pray for the people effected in this disturbing and so close to my own home land attack.



Many of you know I am a kiwi and from little old Dunedin. I remember as a child growing up in Dunedin feeling so far far away from battles and wars. I always remember thinking nothing like this would or could ever happened in New Zealand. 

Over the years we have become a global community and what use to seem not possible is the possible. Social media has it's place, and we have had to learn how to use it, respectfully and accept it. I have seen positives outcomes with Facebook in such events where people have been stuck or in danger and used it to reach out to get help, fast.


Let's keep sharing positive loving caring messages on our social media platforms. It is a snowball effect. What we think we become. Let go of fear and repeat I am safe and secure, all is well. I welcome only love and light into my life. 

I am a proud kiwi and send love compassion and prayers out to my country and the effected Muslim Community to the loving people and children who have been taken recklessly brutal and selfishly. New Zealand is my roots and a place I will always call home, my rock solid friends and family are there in this beautiful country that  is filled with such diversity, acceptance

Turmeric Tea

1 tspn turmeric powder organic 
1 cup Boiling water 
1/4 tspn coconut oil
sprinkle of cinnamon 
Stir well

New Simplistic Green Smoothie.



Over the years on my own health and fitness journey I have learn't that
 SIMPLICITY is the KEY. So today I wanted to share such a simple yet nutritious and energising green smoothie with you. 

Simple Quick and Easy dose of Greens for your body and mind.
Simple Green Smoothie

1 cup kale
1 cup spinach
1 cup silver beet
1 green apple
800mls water
ice

Blend all ingredients in the blender, serve cold or at room temp. You could add a sprig of mint.

Why silverbeet is good to eat

  • Silverbeet is a good source of vitamins A, C, B6 and K (important for helping your blood to clot).
  • It also contains riboflavin and folate and minerals such as potassium (which helps to regulate blood pressure) and manganese (involved in the regulation of brain and nerve function).
  • Silverbeet contains dietary fibre, which is important for a healthy bowel.
  • Energy – 100 g of silverbeet supplies 65 kJ.


Miss Jetset Current Campaign 

I have been enjoying the involvement in this current campaign to help bring awareness and raise money for 'Children in Cancer and helping those families dealing with it.

I have to say it really does make you stop and think about life and how easy we can become caught up with the small stuff, when really there is always much bigger problems people are dealing with, I think we are blessed with how far the medical world is progressing with Cancer, however I still get so passionate about sharing tools techniques for preventative health, but when it comes to children it just doesn't seem fair or right that a young child should get such an illness. I have taken a lot of time out in this campaign to give my who  gratitude and thanks to my daughters health and wellbeing. Truly feel blessed for their health.

The final hours are here in this Campaign and I am asking you if you could make a a simple vote for me to stay intros round. All I have to do is move up to 1st place in this round to go through to the next round with 30 Models. This comp is not about being the best looking model, it is for a lifestyle magazine, and I believe it really comes down to building that relationship with your people, clients, fan base. I would love to go through to the next round as I feel I am only just ramping up this amazing awareness for the B+Foundation for families dealing with cancer.
Everyone is going to be pushing hard to make the cutoff tonight. So keep promoting, and let your voters know that you need them to help you hold your position. Remember that it's still early in the competition and anything can happen.

Traveling is something that comes with our lifestyle.  You can go on a business trip, travel for pleasure, or take your family for a vacation.


With a busy travel schedule, remember your daily exercise routine?          



Every gone away on that dream holiday and returned a few kg heavier. It happens to all of us, especially if you are jet setting around the world, just stepping on the plane your fluid retention goes up.Which means the scales go up and you can begin to feel a

little sluggish.




When you can look in the mirror and see health vitality and a fit toned slender body coming back at you, you have won. It doesn’t matter what the scales say, it is really about how you feel from the inside out not  the number of the scales.




 Try not to define yourself by a number, who

cares what that number is. We are all different, sizes, height, bone density.
Muscle weighs heavier than fat, it is a fact. However staying fit and
can be done, with a little planning ahead.

 So while you are travelling you may increase your weight a little so it is very important NOT weigh yourself on your arrival home but contine to move and eat healthy best way you can while on your vacation so you can enjoy the  enjoy the fullness of your  trip.

Tips to keep you fit, healthy and feeling happy and amazing while travelling so you can enjoy the fullness of you holiday.






Week prior travel



I have eaten very clean all the way to LA choosing the vegan option with Humus and fresh raw vegetables sticks and fruit served by ordering ahead.  

Pre-order Vegan Option with your airline.


                                                                                                             



The day of travel and for the plane




  1. Important to prepare all your food the night before just like you would normally.
  2.     Pack solids rather than liquids as you cannot get through international security with fluids
  3. .   As a tip, you can make a green juice/smoothie to take to the airport but be prepared to have this finished by security.
  4.     Eat as structured as you can be leading up to your flight, and the day before, knowing that the day of travel wont quite be the same.
  5.     Even though you have ticked vegan, don’t ever rely on plane food to be exactly as you anticipated. Pack your back up plan, see below.
  6.    Take a food bag specifically for your healthy nutrition and tea cup with plenty of herbal teas, so you can sit back relax with all your comforts                                    








What food & drinks to pack for the plane

                                    

I travel a lot and when I was competing in Fitness Comps in my 20’s over 20 years ago I learnt fast never to trust plane food, I did this every time and still do today.


                                                                                                


  • Pack vegan protein powder, in a container you can easily mix –see my shakers


  • Pack your green tea sachets or green tea bags + camomile tea for sleep time


  • One Punnet of strawberries are great for sweet tooth moments


  • Dried dates, but not too many, depending on length of the flight, 5 dates should beplenty. 


  • Mix of nuts & seeds, goji berries


  • Water can be tricky, I always try to remember to buy a litre once through the security, as you just never seem to get enough water on the plane in to your body.


  • Pack a throw away container of Fresh greens, I take spinach leave as you can roll the dates and almond in the spinach.


  • If you are eating protein, pack 1-2 chicken breast pre-sliced or
    diced. (fish too smelly)   
                                                                 
  • Don’t worry too much about carbs as you are sitting and relaxing, you don’t need the heavier carbs, but if you are travelling with your hubby or partner, you could pack acontainer of sweet potato chips pre-baked the night before with rosemary, coconut oil and Himalayan salt. 
    This would be a good idea when you are on a a 12-hour flight.                                                                   


  • Have a sweet tooth- you could always pack a raw vegan protein ball




Eliminate jet lag tip- I have tested and tried this and it works well to step off the plane feeling energised.



·     

  • No bread, carbs, only wat fruit and vegetables, load up on water and herbal teas                                                                                   
  •     Listen to meditation music and meditate
  •    Stretch on the plane and move every so often. Find a spot and practice a few easy yoga postures, even if it means just rotating your ankle joints around ten times one way and ten times the other, wrists, and shoulder joints. This will create blood flow and energy.

Healthy Nutrition Meditation and Sleep is the key
    
  • Set your time clock and time zone best you can straight away so
you can trick your mind you have switched time zones.

  • Continue the gym or yoga session, walks while on your next vacation or business trip? I personally like to make yoga and exercise part of my travel.  I mean why stop just because you are travelling, on holiday or working. 
  • Remember to google ahead of your trip where the closest gym,  Yoga or Bikram Hot Yoga Studios are. Book in your time after your long flight, to boost your energy.
