Healthy Tips for Eating Out

EATING OUT this weekend?

I have eaten  out at a lot of beautiful and amazing restaurants, however it is important you only do this once or twice while trying to change your lifestyle and health, and defiantly not all the time.

There are things you must know to make eating out easy and not allow it to effect your results while on the program.

Here are my tips I do to staying on track.

✔️I order an entree rather than a main

✔️Order 2 small entrees for your meal. It could be a side of greens and a salad

✔️Choose gluten free, dairy free - especially when going to a wedding/event make sure you put your request in.

✔️Let the waiter know you are on a special gluten free plan and not allowed and dairy or gluten, this will keep you safe while eating out.

✔️Ask for ALL  sauces on the side. That way you have control of what it is and how much you use.

✔️Opt for greens greens greens! The more green you eat while out the better.

✔️Order side Salads

🤔Now dessert is tricky because not many offer the Raw desserts, so my tip is to order a camomile (or peppermint) tea with a side of honey.

  • The herbal tea keeps you calm and released whole around friends eating their mud cakes, and cream.
  • Choose the healthiest restaurant or cafe possible, if drinking try to add water in between or ask for hot water and lemon.
Lastly it is important to remember when eating out with fiends and family to relax and enjoy while being in control of the choices you make, if you happen to be challenged with less choice, then relax and enjoy and get RIGHT BACK ON TRACK THE NEXT MEAL OR NEXT DAY, I usually would do a greens juice and turmeric juice day the very next day with apple cider shots and turmeric tea.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Easter ~ get my raw chocolate treat recipe

Happy Easter 🙏🏻🐰

Sending you and your family good health, love peace and happiness.

"When you find inner peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others." ~ Nicky x

n a m a s t e

Nicky 👌🏻🐰xx

Easter time can be a time to restore, be with family and friends, it can be a great time of the year to stop reflect in how your year is tracking and give thanks to life, and all you have to be grateful for.

Easter time can provide you with some stillness, prayer time, and even timeout to revisit this years goals dreams and aspirations.

Easter time in many families holds tradition, holidays, getaways, and togetherness.

For over 50 years my family have been going to Central Otago, Alexandra and for the very first time this year, it has changed. In the past my Dad, Brother, Uncles cousins and extended male family go on a fishing trip. They stay in their fishing hut, that they made over the years their Man Cave.

They hold a fishing competition,  sit around the billie, cooking their fish and food packed by their wives, telling stories from the past and jokes that us women don't need to hear.

They usually return on Easter Sunday, with their fish and my dear late Aunty Marlene would line the fish up and take photos. We would all then come together for a Easter Sunday roast and family togetherness, and laughter.

It was like this for many many years. It is sad my Aunty and uncle and my cousin who all passed away to cancer are no longer with us. I have also been living away from home and Easter time has taken on a different tradition. My cousins and brother are continuing on the Fishing Trip to keep the family tradition alive. But the dynamics has changed significantly, that's life forever changing and evolving.

My girls are growing up and the Easter Hunt and bringing out their easter bunny baskets since they were babies is hanging in there but very soon, things will change and Easter Hunts won't be so cool, but the baskets will always be bought out and filled maybe with some fresh figs and grapes with my healthy raw vegan chocolate ready for those who visit.

Most families have a family tradition at Easter and it's a time I treat like Xmas, as an Entrepreneur I take time out to look at my goals, my plans and track how the year as a quarter has looked and resulted. It's a brain storming weekend that I have done for many years. To stop when the world is stoping and resting.

Easter doesn't have to be always about chocolate, set up some time to spend around nature, goal planning, business development time, or maybe cooking some healthy teas vegan amazing yummy treats.

Cacao powder is full of nutrients. It looks like cocoa but retains all its natural

goodness making it a good substitute to eat when you crave chocolate. Serves 4

1 cup (8 fl oz/250 ml) coconut oil
1 cup (8 oz/225 g) Raw cacao powder
1⁄2 cup (21⁄2 oz/75 g) goji berries, plus extra to decorate 1⁄2 cup (21⁄2 oz/75 g) cranberries, plus extra to decorate 1⁄2 teaspoon Himalayan sea salt

Melt the coconut oil in a pan over gentle heat until liquid. Add the cacao powder and salt and stir through. Add the goji berries and cranberries. Pour into a 61⁄2 x 4 in (17 x 11 cm) container lined with baking paper. Add more berries pushing them into the top for decoration.

Easter Buns

For the Buns
1⁄2 cup flax meal (ground linseeds)
1 cup  almond flour (I use dehydrated almond pulp left over from making almond milk)
1⁄2 cup pecans, finely chopped
1⁄2 cup spelt flakes
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 dates, soaked in 1⁄2 cup  filtered water for 10 minutes
1 tablespoon chia mixed with
1/cup filtered water
11⁄2 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup  filtered water

For the Filling
1/cup almonds, soaked in filtered water for 3 hours
1⁄2 cup  cashew nuts, soaked in filtered water for 3 hours 1 cup young coconut (the white part)
2 fresh dates blended with 3 tablespoons filtered water
1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/cup raisins

For the Icing
1⁄2 cup cashew butter
2 tablespoons maple syrup (not Raw) 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon powder 3 teaspoons filtered water

To make the buns, combine the flax meal, almond flour, finely chopped pecans, spelt flakes and cinnamon in a large bowl.

In another bowl, combine the date paste, olive oil and water. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.

Spread in a rectangle on baking paper or a sheet of Teflex to less than 1⁄2 in (1.25 cm) thick. Dehydrate at 145°C/290°F for 30 minutes. Peel off the paper and dehydrate at 115°C/240°F for another 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Tip the drained soaked almonds and cashews into the bowl of a food processor or blender and process with the coconut, dates and vanilla until smooth. Stir in the raisins.

To make the icing, mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl.

Place a bun on a serving plate. Spread with filling and roll up carefully like a bun shape, or spread on top and add icing. Serve with thawed frozen boysenberries.

Nicky's Skin Smoothing Smoothie: Radiant Glowing Skin

  • 1 tbspn Organic Cacao Powder
  • ¼ avocado
  • 1 small cucumber
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 inch of raw turmeric (if you can't get it, use 1 tbsp organic turmeric spice)
  • 1 cup  of spinach
  • 1/2 tsp peppercorns

Why is this smoothie great for CLEAR, RADIANT SKIN?

  1. Spinach. This leafy green is loaded with lutein, the more & greens the clearer your eyes. which will keep your eyes sparkling and your skin radiant. Spinach  is also a good source of omega-3s, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins B, C, and E.
  2. Turmeric. Anti inflammatory,

It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb.

Recently, science has started to back up what the Indians have known for a long time,  containing compounds with medicinal properties

Unfortunately, curcumin ( turmeric) is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. It helps to consume black pepper with it, that enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000% that is why you will see peppercorns in my recipes with Turmeric.

  1. Avocado is loaded with skin-healthy monounsaturated fats, enabling your body to efficiently absorb fat-soluble nutrients for skin health.
  2. Rich in vitamin C, lemon will help your body purge excess water weight and balance the sodium and potassium levels in your cells -say goodbye to face bloating, fluid retention.
  3. cucumbers contain hydrating, nourishing and astringent properties that are very good for skin and digestion. Blend up a cucumber in your green smoothie to fight inflammation when a breakout is coming on!

Breakouts usually come from 3 simple things

1. Nutrition

2. Hormonal imbalance

3 . Stress ( this is a big one, so make sure you relax and practice time out to keep skin and digestion under check!)

Y O G A ❤️ R O O T S

Y O G A is a healing process and you simply can't be in a rush or think you will get a quick fix over night. I go back to my YOGA roots often to remind me of how I got started and where I was in a junk body and  frantic busy mind. My mum and dad often would tell me 'Nicola you can't sit still for 5 mins, you have ants in your pants!'
I seriously was a fitness freak, workaholic and party girl 7 days a week. Not that I partied every night but I over worked and socialised around drinking and dinners out  every weekend. When I did take a break from my business I often felt sick exhausted and struggled to just be without doing. Back then I had a cleaner, are out, didn't have time to cook or passion to want to, my staff kept me organised with apts, reminders and often would be pushing me out the door to catch my flight when I was traveling a lot for judging and organising competitions, committe meetings etc.
I use to fly business class a lot and be a member of the lounge where everything was put in front of you, fine wine, food, coffee, stimulation and high heels that totally was throwing my body alignment  out.
These days my  life is very very different and its a blessing to help you on your path. I know how it feels to be out of balance, Obsessed with success, fashion and temptations.

Today if you take one thing away  from reading my blog, you gain knowledge and knowledge is power to change. Don't be overwhelmed by overload information on why is right and wrong. Start small with one small simple change today.

Seeking contentment was just something that wSng taught to me in my early years yet it's so simple when you begin to heal from within, through mind body soul foods, it then flourishes through your cells without looking and a happy heart is with you daily.

Obstacles come and go but the contentment is everlasting.

Read more on Nutrition and my YOGA ROOTS story.

Food, diet, muscle definition fitness, energy, weight loss preventative health longevity what is right what is wrong what gives you the best results and health benefits? My own transformation has been a big part of nutrition and learning to love respect and know how to look after my temple, my body which is my home to carry me  through my life happy vibrant and for as long  as I can. My ultimate his to be around long enough to one day be around to meet  my children's children and have energy to do the things we enjoy.
But when we think about nutrition aren't, most  of all we are confused about it! At some point of your life.
I can tell you I have been through my own fair share of that confusion over 20 years ago now.  The food pyramid tells us to eat mostly breads & cereals while many nutrition, and health  experts (myself included) tell us to eat mostly live grown plant based foods.  Our Doctors tell us eggs & butter are bad for our health & real food enthusiasts condone these very same foods. One minute we are told animal protein will give us cancer and shorten our lives, the next we are being told to use lard to cook with and eat liver! We now have to do more than read labels, ( something I rarely use to do in terms of calorie count big always looking out for preservatives and artificial colourings)
My yoga roots and path have been a big part of working out a pain free healthy vibrant temple. Trying  to source local, organic if we can, biodynamic and live plant based foods And  grass fed food. We need to soak & activate nuts and grains before eating them. We should be drinking green smoothies, fresh greens juices, healing teas, ancient gluten free grains & seeds like quinoa, freekha, chia, millet, buckwheat, amaranth to fermenting vegetables and dissecting the nutritional labels of all the food our family consumes.

On my retreats and workshops you learn the three things I believe that are causing people problems 1. Overloaded stress 2. Bad nutrition habits 3. Mindset ( this looks a lot inside and at habitual mindset patterns you may not even know you have)

My new book The Power of Living RAW is a fabulous book & tool to set you on the right path and I believe the path to healing, rejuvenating mind and body, Alkalizing your system while helping your colon & digestive system to have a rest from heavier  processed artificial food types. This can be the first simple step to begin the healing path.

Yoga & meditation is also a big part of the journey helping you to finally feel your body and become aware of your mind to help you shift and make  those changes.

Back to my YOGA ❤️ ROOTS
I started my yoga journey in Dunedin New Zealand in a Ashtanga Trained studio, back then it was a shock for me and it was a little 'hippy' actually it was. Lot hippy and I felt really out of place.
We paid $8.00 into a tin at the door it was up to you to put the right amount in, no one took the cash off you.

The teachers name was Jessica, she clearly was a dancer and inspired me in her splits and handstsnds but what was a strong memory was the challenge of sitting on a hard floor cross legged meditating for 30 mins. My mind was constantly wondering when it would be over and thinking about my staff and salon commitments. However over time something started to feel amazing and my monkey mind slowly started to shut up!
I travelled a lot to MELBOURNE in those days with my ex husbands operas, and was very fortunate to find Andrew Mournehis a fantastic teacher that taught Anusara Yoga who helped me heal my heart and self hate relationship I had with my body.

You will be shocked to know if I caught myself in the mirror in yoga I would only see faults and what I thought was wrong with me... Too short, round face, fair hair, bulky arms flat chest! Learning to love and accept yourself is the real beginning of healing and transformation.

The world we are bought up around in today's world is so image based on social media magazines TV all of what I try now days not to spend time Looking at unless it is intellitual educational content on facts research that is adding knowledge to my work and passion.

Standing in front of the mirror practicing yoga back then was a lot of self acceptance, these days for me my mind is quiet the ego has quitened down and I can focus solely on correct body alignment and breath to deepen my practice to get best results and go to new bench marks.

If you want to find out more about my yoga roots follow my blog as the journey continues to help inspire you in your practice.

When you get excited about going inside and look at what yoga is all about and the roots of it which is the postures  that are to heal in a therapeutic way for beginner level to transform your mind body life to a pain free and content heart that is the key.

Blessings Love & Light
Nicky 🙏
