Your back, your body can heal itself.


When you're in that kind of pain, you will do anything to get rid of it. Prescribed pain medication and even surgery is "common solutions” It’s the only way the doctors know how to help patients and after all it is their job - to prescribe. Most people are going there for relief and to be fixed. It doesn’t have to be that way…!
It just takes some specialized knowledge to “unlock” your body’s natural healing ability, just like when you were young. Your body does regenerate, but you need to know what to do and how to embrace it as a healing journey.

When I was only 16 years old, three months after starting Hairdressing. I worked in a very busy salon and found myself leaning over the basin and clients  up to 12 hours a day, over time my posture became very poor from a perfect straight  posture riding horses and practising sitting up with my adductor muscles turned on for dressage, show jumping and cross country, over time my body started to fall apart. My core became terribly weak and I started to get that rounded shoulder and protruding stomach, at a very early age. The riding also started to lock up my hips.

I told mum about the pain I was in, and she took my off to our local Doctor. How only knew to prescribe my drugs. We went to the counter with the script and the lady handed over a container of pills, drugs. This was a truing point in my life. I don't know where my own belief holistic healing came from at such an early age, I think maybe my life around nature and fitness from an early age. I remember throwing the drugs away and never mentioning it to mum again. I was 16 years old. I thought to myself this is not actually going to fix my problem, its only going to give me a band aid effect, because I am about to sign up for a five year hairdressing apprenticeship and will be doing this movement at work for a very long time. Not long after that day I joined the gym, Les Mills Dunedin. I also booked into a massage therapist weekly and started the journey to find out everything I could that was going on inside my body. The pain shifted to my sciatic and hips over the years and was told it was from a horse fall. It took me until I was 27 years onld to finally find the yoga path. 

This practice started to ease the pain, it didn't happen over night. What I did notice was if I didn't practice I was tight and sore again. I set up,my own home practice immediately so I had a yoga room at home the days I couldn't get to my Ashtanga Practice. It wasn't until years later on my Bikram teacher training course I realised something that unlocked the secret to my pain. I had a brocken leg when I was only 8 years old, which meant the femur bone was left with a bow in it. After pracising Bikram Yoga in front of the mirror for ten weeks, two hour in the morning and night It started to stick out like a sore thumb. I could clearly see the bow in my leg, causing me to pronate and not stand balanced on my feet, this is why the pain over time standing in a job on my feet for so long, created pain over the years in my 
Iliotibial Band Syndrome (IT Band Syndrome) I had spent money on orthotics, specialist, personal trainers, massage therapist, holistic therapist but n on e could work it out. I had to find out the answers my self. Once I learnt how to release the pain in my IT band, through my yoga stretches, I became pain free. There was another influencer at the time, I went Vegan for five years and eliminated alcohol.  I couldn't believe how amazing I felt and wanted to share this feeling with the world. I became a Yoga Instructor and published the book How to be a Happier Mum ~ a mothers bible to health and wellness, and then published  Raw and Vegan Books not long after. 

Over my years as a Yoga Instructor and helping people on my 10 week body transformation program to holistic fitenss, I have met many people with back pain. 
It all comes down to the lack of stretching and eating healthy. Some foods can increase inflammation in the body so if you are already prone to back pain, this will not help you, and worse if you don’t do the right exercise or stretch this can hold you back from getting to know your own body from the inside out and working out how to heal your body from pain the holistic way.
